This is probably the most common question I get when I divulge my involvement with ghosts and other entities, and freak occurrences. And honestly, if you were to ask me to join you on a ghost hunt 15 years ago, I would have responded with a resounding, “Hell no!”
As a child I was troubled by things like being afraid of the dark and the unknown, let alone things like ghosts, aliens and cryptozoology! I have always been “sensitive” and that frightened me. Seeing auras around people and mist-like visions swirling in the air was my “normal” but that doesn’t mean I liked it. I lived in fear that I was going to experience something more terrifying than even the scariest horror movies could portray. I never did though (the real monsters were living people, sadly).
In my teens, I learned how to flip the “off switch” on these visions. In fact, I eventually almost had myself convinced that ghosts didn’t exist… Until I had a wild experience as a bartender that involved the voice of an old man and a glass shattering on its own. I couldn’t ignore that!
Then at about 25, I decided to take a road trip to Long Island with a friend to disprove a bunch of paranormal claims, which, we did… But we certainly didn’t expect to open up a new can of worms with a last minute decision to visit Kings Park Psychiatric Center! We were introduced to a number of entities who were all too happy to interact with me, and there was no debunking the voices that spoke on video, especially the ones that spoke over what my friend was saying at the time!
The following weekend we went to visit an abandoned sanatorium, at which I collected even more solid evidence. But this time, I didn’t know I was interacting with an entity, and even repeating sentences I never heard until I noticed them on the video playback.
From there, I continued to grow and collect experiences with time, and my stories have only gotten stranger and more frequent. I’ve seen apparitions at Gettysburg and heard an effigy doll crying (probably the most unsettling experience). I’ve had incredible communications via the use of flashlights…
Perhaps the wildest one happened when I visited a private home in which a man claimed that doors opened and closed regularly on their own, and heard what often sounded like conversations happening in other rooms which, upon entering, there was no one there. I’d heard the male voice myself, which is fairly common as far as hauntings go.. it’s what happened in the attic that really caught my attention. Several coins were being tossed at me from a dark corner, and they landed at my feet. When I approached the shadowed area close enough for me to see it was empty, the coin tossing had stopped. But when I backed up a few feet, it resumed again. Odd, right? That’s when I noticed the change I had in my pocket was gone… How it managed to vanish and rematerialize in mid-air is beyond me. All I know is that there are many things in this world we don’t have an explanation for.
I’ve come a long way so far- from being terrified of all things out of my understanding, to straight up curious. I am no longer afraid to seek answers to these strange occurrences, and openly invite these entities to make themselves known and establish a means of communication. I want to know more. No, I NEED to know more. And I have no intention of stopping this search in the foreseeable future.
