Every now and then, life gets you burnt out- it doesn’t matter who you are, it happens to all of us. Daily pressures can get to be too much, and my cure-all for such a situation is to have a staycation!
This is a time to take care of yourself and embrace JOMO [Joy Of Missing Out]. Fuck the world, you’re taking time to pamper yourself and recharge for the days ahead. So don’t worry about your email or your text messages or calling your grandma. You can do all of that later. This is a time for YOU.
1. Turn your phone off.
This is the first, most basic, and most important step in beginning your staycation- turn that damn phone off! I know it’s your lifeline, and probably cemented to your hand, but take a little time away from it. You won’t die, I promise.
2. Indulge in a little alcohol [marijuana where allowed].
Get a bottle of your favorite wine, or make some fun cocktails, or whatever drink of your choice. Sit back, have a sip, and get your relax on! [As with all things, best in moderation. If you’re underage, pick a legal alternative.]
3. Take a long hot shower or bath.
Few things relax me more than soaking in a hot tub [or taking a long shower] with great smelling soaps, bath salts, etc. I find aromatherapy is very helpful in achieving a lighter, more blissful mood, in conjunction with the hot water. [try Herbal Essences Body Wash Body Burst]
4. Dye your hair.
I always find myself drastically changing my hair during stressful times. It’s kind of my way of ‘starting over’ with a new hair style/color, a new mindset- a sort of physical affirmation of my goals, and it’s very confidence-boosting, too. Give it a shot, and have fun! Try something you normally wouldn’t. It’s only hair, it’ll grow back.
5. Try Vacay water enhancer.
I was given a sample of Vacay and holy crap, it really does relax you! It helps me get to sleep during restless nights, and relaxes my muscles. [so wonderful for FM sufferers!] #drinkvacay
[I received the product mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.]
6. Paint your nails.
Lacquer your nails with bright, fun, tropical colors. Paint stripes, spots, argyle, anything that makes you happy! Go wild! [Sinful Colors has so many inexpensive shades to choose from.]
7. Surround yourself with things that make you smile.
Seems like common sense, right? But when we get caught up in all the problems of our world, we sometimes forget about the comfort of keeping things we love around us. Go ahead and splurge on those sequin curtains or that velour bean bag chair. It’s worth it.
8. Keep a journal.
Writing about your life and feelings is probably one of the best therapy techniques for keeping all the mental stuff in control. You don’t have to be a talented writer -no one is going to read it unless you show them- the point is just getting the stuff in your head out, and written down on paper.
Play your favorite music and dance around the house [in your underwear]. It’s liberating, and gets you loosened up. Don’t worry about what you look like- it’s about having fun and feeling the music and achieving a healthier, happier, more inspired mood.
10. Play with a fuzzy friend.
Personally, there is something very heart-warming about playing with cats [and dogs, and other adorable critters]. I’m a cat lover particularly, and their playfulness makes me melt. They are such curious creatures and make me laugh. Spending time with animals heals the soul.
11. Just veg out.
Spend a day in your pajamas and catch up on your favorite shows. Sometimes we just need a day to be lazy and hide away from the world [but don’t make it a habit].
When the world gets to be too much, take a little time for yourself- have a staycation! [because not all of us can just hop on a jet to Maui whenever we want]
Use this time to get back in touch with yourself and your feelings, and get your head straight. Surround yourself with self love and remind yourself how awesome you are. Live decadently for a little while, and prepare for the days ahead. You’ve been working hard- you deserve it!
What do you do to relax?
